Can You Take Zeaxan With Blood Thinners, Eliquis or Diabetes Medicine?
Ask your doctor or pharmacist first. Zeaxan holds ginkgo, which may add to blood thinners such as warfarin. It holds cinnamon, which may add to diabetes medicines, and green tea extract, which can lower nadolol and atorvastatin. The sources we use do not name Eliquis, so no one can answer from them alone.

Can you take Zeaxan with blood thinners?
Not without asking first. Zeaxan lists ginkgo biloba powder as its eighth ingredient. NCCIH says ginkgo may add to the effect of blood thinners such as warfarin, which can raise bleeding risk (NCCIH, 2025). How much ginkgo a serving holds is not on the label.
Because the amount is unknown, there is no safe-looking number to rely on. The ceiling for ginkgo is 75 mg per serving, found by dividing 600 by its place in the list. A ceiling is the most it could be. It does not tell you what is in your capsules.
So the plain rule is: if you take any blood thinner, put the label in front of your doctor or pharmacist before the first capsule, and do not start on your own.
Key facts
- NCCIH (2025) says ginkgo may strengthen blood thinners such as warfarin and is a concern before surgery.
- Cinnamon may add to medicines that lower blood sugar (NCCIH, 2024).
- Per NCCIH (2025), green tea extract can bring down blood levels of nadolol and atorvastatin.
- Zeaxanthin itself is not listed as a blood thinner in the sources we use. Ginkgo is the flagged ingredient.
- The amount of ginkgo, cinnamon and green tea extract in a serving is not published.
- Count vitamin B6 from every product; adults should stay under 100 mg a day.
What about Eliquis and other blood thinners?
Searches often name Eliquis. The sources we use name warfarin as the example and say "blood thinners" in general. They do not name Eliquis, and they do not say how ginkgo behaves with it. So nobody can give you a yes or a no from them.
A pharmacist can. Take the Zeaxan bottle, or a photo of the back panel, and your medicine list. Ask one clear question: does anything on this label add to the effect of my blood thinner? Write down the answer and the date.
The same goes for any other medicine you take for your blood. If the sources do not name a medicine, that is a gap, not a green light.
Does zeaxanthin thin the blood?
Zeaxanthin is a yellow plant pigment, and none of the sources we use lists it as a blood thinner. The ingredient that carries the blood warning in this formula is ginkgo. People often search for zeaxanthin and warfarin or Eliquis because the product name sounds like the ingredient. The label's concern is the other name on the list.
Lutein and zeaxanthin together, in the study doses used in AREDS2, are 10 mg and 2 mg a day (NEI). Those were part of a formula that also held vitamins C and E, zinc and copper. That study did not look at blood thinners in our sources, so it cannot settle the question for Zeaxan.
Can you take Zeaxan with diabetes medicine?
Ask first. Cinnamon is the second ingredient, and NCCIH says it may add to the effect of medicines that lower blood sugar (NCCIH, 2024). The label does not name which cinnamon it is or how much a serving holds.
If blood sugar drops too low you may feel shaky, sweaty or confused. Those are reasons to talk to your doctor, and to do it before starting, not after. Do not change a diabetes medicine because of a supplement.
Can Zeaxan lower blood sugar or blood pressure on its own? The sources we use make no such claim, so we make none. Do not use it as a treatment for either.
Which heart and cholesterol medicines matter?
Green tea extract is the last ingredient in the blend. NCCIH says it can lower blood levels of nadolol, a heart drug, and atorvastatin, a cholesterol drug. If those levels fall, the medicine may work less well (NCCIH, 2025).
Green tea extract has also been linked, rarely, to liver injury. If you have liver disease or a past liver problem, mention it when you ask about Zeaxan. The 55 mg ceiling for the extract is far below the level at which EFSA saw liver markers rise, which was 800 mg of EGCG a day or more (EFSA, 2018). Still, a ceiling is not a measured dose.
How do you check your medicines against the Zeaxan label?
List what you take
Write down every prescription, over-the-counter product and supplement, with the dose.
Bring the label
Carry the bottle, or a photo of the back panel. The 11 names matter more than the claims.
Ask three questions
Does ginkgo affect my blood thinner? Does cinnamon affect my diabetes medicine? Does green tea extract affect my heart or cholesterol medicine?
Add up B6
Vitamin B6 is in many multivitamins and B complexes. Zeaxan prints no B6 amount, so a pharmacist can help you stay under the 100 mg adult limit (NIH ODS, 2023).
Write the answer down
Keep the note with the bottle in case another clinician asks.
What if you take other supplements as well?
Add them up. Because Zeaxan prints no B6 amount, you cannot work out your total from its label. Adults should stay under 100 mg a day, and years of high doses can damage nerves. A multivitamin, a B complex or an energy drink may all carry B6.
The same goes for choline, since AGP choline is third in the blend. For men, about 550 mg a day from all sources is needed and 3,500 mg is the ceiling (NIH ODS). Two eye formulas at once can also double up on lutein and zeaxanthin.
Which ingredients carry no medicine flag in our sources?
Lutein, zeaxanthin and vitamin B12 are not flagged for a drug interaction in the sources we use, and no upper limit is set for B12. Salt adds sodium, which counts if you have been told to follow a low-sodium diet.
Absence of a flag is not a clean bill. It only means our sources do not mention one. Your pharmacist sees your full list and can say more.
What are the medicine flags at a glance?
Each flag below comes from the NCCIH or NIH notes in the site's source list.
| Ingredient | Place in blend | Medicine or situation to ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Cinnamon Extract | 2nd | Diabetes medicines may be added to |
| Vitamin B6 | 7th | Other B6 sources; adult upper limit 100 mg a day |
| Ginkgo Biloba Powder | 8th | Blood thinners such as warfarin; surgery |
| Green Tea Extract (50%) | 11th | Nadolol, atorvastatin; liver disease |
| Bilberry Leaf Powder | 6th | Ask before long use and before surgery |
Frequently asked questions
Can I take zeaxanthin with Eliquis?
The sources we use do not name Eliquis. Zeaxan contains ginkgo, which may add to blood thinners, so ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start.
Is zeaxanthin a blood thinner?
None of our sources lists it as one. The ingredient flagged for blood thinners in Zeaxan is ginkgo.
Does Zeaxan interact with warfarin?
It may. NCCIH says ginkgo may add to the effect of warfarin and similar drugs. Ask your doctor before starting.
Can Zeaxan lower blood sugar?
No such claim is made. Cinnamon may add to the effect of diabetes medicines, so ask your doctor if you take one.
Does green tea extract affect my medicines?
It can lower blood levels of nadolol and atorvastatin. Ask a pharmacist to check the full label against your list.
What if I have surgery planned?
Ginkgo matters before surgery. Tell your surgeon and your doctor that you take Zeaxan and ask when to stop.

Our view
The medicine question is the one we would put first. Three of the eleven ingredients carry a known flag, and the label does not print how much of each is inside. That makes a guess unwise.
The practical answer is short. Anyone on a blood thinner, a diabetes medicine, nadolol or atorvastatin should ask before starting. If you take none of them and are an adult, follow the label dose and keep your doctor in the loop. We would rather you spend ten minutes with a pharmacist than rely on any web page, including this one.
